Gold worth Tk 25 million seized in Ctg: 2 held

Customs officials at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport in Chittagong seized gold weighing 5.850 kilograms (kg) from two pasengers of a plane coming from a Middle Eastern city on Tuesday night. The two air passengers - Nurul Azim, 24, a resident of Raujan Upazila of Chittagong district, and Helal Uddin, 24, a resident of Chandgaon area of the port city - ahve been arrested. Mashiur Rahman Mandal, Assistant Commissioner (customs) at the airport, said a flight of Flydubai from Dubai landed at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) airport around 7:50pm. Suspecting their movement, customs officials at about 8:45pm conducted a search and found two silver paths attached inside two suitcases of Nurul Azim and Helal, which after an examination were found to be gold. Legal actions against them will be taken under the Customs Act, said Othello Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner (Customs) at the airport. The value of the seized gold was assessed at around Tk 25 million, according to UNB.
