Golfer Siddikur accorded reception

Golfer Siddikur Rahman, winner of seven professional and 12 non-professional golf crowns at home and abroad and earner of around US$1.5 million from the game, said golf would bring pride for Bangladesh like cricket.
He was speaking at a grand reception organised by the Bangladesh Professional Golfers Association (BPGA), held Monday at the National Press Club.
He said, "We have many talents who are waiting for a chance. We need professional trainings and experienced coach to improve our golf."
Chief guest of the programme State Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Bir Protik, said the present government is a great patron of sports.
Brig Gen (Rtd.) Salim Akhtar, Vice-president of the Bangladesh Professional Golfers Association (BPGA), said "Siddikur is our unsung hero."
He said Siddique brought glory for Bangladesh and won many trophies but he is sill unknown to most of the Bangladeshis. "Media can play a vital role in popularising golf and inspiring the young generation", he added.
Siddikur said he would participate in the May-Bank Malaysian Open" to be held on April 17-20 this year, "Indonesian Masters" on April 24-27, and "the Championship Tournament" in Korea on May 1-4 this year.
