Golpata collection in Sundarbans starts Dec 15

Our Correspondent KHULNA, Dec 12: The procurement of Golpata in Sundarbans will start from December 15. Permits are being given to the Bawalees to procure Golpata. The target has been fixed at 1.1 million maunds of Golpata from different areas under five ranges of Sundarbans this year. The Forest Department sources said they expect that Tk 11 million will be earned as revenue from Golpata. The procurement will continue till February 25. The revenue for per maund of Golpata has been fixed Tk 12 against Tk 4 last year. Mihir Kumer, DFO of East Sundarbans, said that the target has been fixed to procure 0.5 million maunds of Golpata this year from three cooperatives under Sharankhola and Chandpai range of East zone of Sundarbans and the revenue expected is about Tk 5 million. West Sundarbans zone sources said that permits will be given to procure 0.6 million maunds of Golpata from Shibsha and Satkhira with a target of Tk 6 million as revenue. The distribution of BLC (Boat Licence Certificate) among the Bawalees have already been started.
