Good cucumber output delights Rangpur farmers

RANGPUR, Apr 08: Cucumber growers in the district are delighted due to a good yield of their produce during this current season.
According to sources, harvesting of the crop is going on across the region and the growers have been earning a good profit from selling their produce in markets since beginning of the season.
Babu Mia, a peasant of Changmari village under Gangachara upazila told this correspondent that he had cultivated cucumber on 40 decimals of land.
He has already earned over Tk 20,000 by selling his produce, he said.
Rabiul, another farmer of Kukrul area in Rangpur city said that he had cultivated cucumber on 35 decimals of land.
Due to early harvest he could make satisfactory profit from its sale in markets.
He expressed satisfaction over plentiful production of the crop this year.
Sources said that witnessing good output as well as satisfactory profit many cultivators expressed their optimism to expand its farming during the next season.
It is learnt that a good number of farmers of the region have changed their financial condition by farming cucumber as it has proved lucrative in recent years, sources said.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Rangpur, official sources, the soil of many areas of the district is very much suitable for cucumber cultivation.
So it is being cultivated aplenty in many areas. Farmers have been also earning good profit from cultivation of cucumber in recent years.
DAE sources said growers are given necessary suggestion and other assistance by the department officials in this connection.
