FE Report | Wednesday, 18 February 2015

Bangladesh Goods Transportation Agency Owners Association and Dhaka City Goods Transportation Agency Owners Association will jointly organise a procession tomorrow (Thursday) from 2nd Buriganga Bridge to National Press Club to press home their demands.
The demands include: providing adequate security arrangements on the roads and highways, keeping the goods transportation sector out of the purview of hartal-blockade, giving proper compensation against the damaged vehicles and merchandises, and providing police cooperation in transport movement and during loading-unloading.
Dhaka City Goods Transportation Agency Owners Association, in a statement issued by its general secretary Dolon Barua, claimed that loss of its members due to arson and vandalism in vehicles during the continuous blockade and hartal over the last 40 days amounts to Tk 200 million. Miscreants set ablaze eight vehicles and damaged 60.
They alleged that they did not receive any kind of cooperation and compensation from the administration while transporting goods through unsafe highways.
Moreover, the police forced them to file cases, claiming the amount of loss as Tk 0.5 million though the damage amounts range from Tk 5.0 million to Tk 10 million, while the goods-laden vehicle were set afire or vandalised, the statement said.
