Goods worth Tk 1.5m burnt in Mongla EPZ

KHULNA, Aug 28: A fire in a Betel-nut factory in Mongla EPZ burnt exportable goods worth Tk 1.5 million August 25 mid-night. Firefighters from Mongla port with the help of local people doused the fire almost 1 hour after it had started.
A three-member committee has been formed to ascertain the cause of the fire headed by Ziaul Hasan, Deputy Manager of Mongla EPZ. A general dairy has been lodged with the Mongla Police Station in this connection.
Sk. Md. Abdullah, Manager Golden Agro Products Limited of Mongla EPZ said that the fire originated from electric short circuit of the electric heat chamber of the factory on Monday mid-night and spread everywhere within a moment and a stock of 100 tonnes processed betel nut for export and valuables worth Tk 1.5 million were burnt in the fire. The fire left cracks at different places in the building.
