The government has decided to pay Tk 0.8 million as compensation to the family members of a civil servant if he/she dies during service, officials said.
Previously the amount of compensation was Tk 0.5 million.
The revised financial assistance of the government for the civil employees also includes allocation of Tk 30,000 from Tk 25,000 for funeral cost if any civil servant dies in service.
Besides, the government is also actively considering increasing the treatment, welfare and group insurance amounts for civil employees.
"We are working to increase the amounts of treatment and welfare funds for the betterment of civil employees," director general (DG) of Bangladesh Karmachari Kallyan Board (BKKB) Shirin Akhter told the FE. She said the employees will enjoy the benefits from July 1, 2016.
The ministry of public administration (MoPA) will bear the financial expenses of an employee if he/she dies during service while the BKKB will bear the funeral cost. There are around 1.4 million government employees (officials and other staffs).
The government has taken several measures to improve the quality of civil servants and ensure welfare for its employees and their family members. BKKB disbursed over Tk 1.36 billion for the employees' treatment and other purposes during the fiscal year (FY) 2014-15.
