Government own shares

Sunday, 31 January 2010

ENOUGH prospects of off-loading shares possessed by government are being preached during the past two decades or more but nothing happens in reality so to say. Many government officials are on the board of directors of those public limited and naturally they enjoy attendance fee, free dinner, transport and even subscription of magazines like Time or so. Thus would those officials like such a move for disposal of government shares for DSE trading?
Again, I am sorry to point out that some of our top class law makers drafted the nationalisation bill of 1972 and small investors lost their investments, as no compensation was provided in the bill prepared by those erudite scholars on law practise.
Lastly, many public limited like Unilever, Nestle, Siemens, Standard Chartered Bank Limited etc., are doing business here but their shares are not traded here though traded in many share markets of the world. Let us hope something will happen this time including off-loading of government-owned shares and new shares of multinational companies.
