Govt aims to boost tech, vocational education

The government plans to increase the percentage of technical and vocational education institutes from 8.0 per cent to 20 per cent by 2020, reports UNB.
"The government will increase the number of technical educational institutions both in public and private sectors to attain the goal," Bangladesh Technical Edu-cation Board (BTEB) chairmen Dr M Mustafizur Rahman told a press conference in the city on Sunday.
The Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) organised the press conference ahead of international conference on 'Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Sustainable Development'.
Deputy project director of the government's Skill and Training Enhancement Pro-ject (STEP) AJM Abdullah Hel Baki said the government is awarding certificates to those who lack institutional training, but have acquired technical skills on the job.
