Govt allots Tk 90m to develop, build airports

The proposed budget for the FY 2010-11 has allocated almost Tk 90 million for developing the existing airports and starting the construction of a new international airport at the outskirts of the capital.
Last year, the government proposed Tk 60 million for the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and later revised it to Tk 80 million.
"Since assuming office, we took various schemes for development of the civil aviation ministry," Finance Minister A M A Muhith said while presenting the fiscal year's budget Thursday.
"A pre-feasibility study has been completed for construction of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib International Airport, while modernisation of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be completed by 2012," he announced.
Programmes have been undertaken for development of Cox's Bazar and Barisal airports, which will be implemented from the next financial year. Besides, a feasibility study is underway to upgrade the Khanjahan Ali STOL Port to a full-fledged domestic airport.
