Govt asked to release Khaleda, Tarique, Koko before Mar 26

Friday, 14 March 2008

The BNP has demanded of the government to release its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her two sons, Tarique and Koko, before the Independence Day on March 26, showing respect to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
BNP chairperson's adviser Brigadier General (retd) Hannan Shah made the demand while talking to reporters in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
Hannan Shah said since Ziaur Rahman is the proclaimer of independence and the government has failed to prove any allegation against Khaleda Zia and her sons in the last one year, they should be released before March 26.
"We hope we'll get them released through legal means," he said.
Shah was critical of the government for its failure to resolve the prevailing problems, including the soaring prices of essentials.
"The government talked about many things but failed in many fields, including tackling the price hike," he said.
Earlier, he held a meeting with BNP leaders Giyeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, Mohammad Shajahan and MA Mannan discussing how to make the party's independence programmes on March 26 a success.
Shah said they would map out programmes to run BNP after holding meeting of the party's standing committee in the future.
He said BNP would run at the instruction of Khaleda Zia and those who go beyond her instructions would be committing mistakes.
In reply to a question, he expressed optimism about the unity process of BNP but said it was a continuous process and it would take time.
