Friday, 24 April 2009
BNP chairperson and leader of the Opposition in parliament Khaleda Zia Thursday sent in a demand-of-justice notice asking the government to withdraw or revoke the notice for vacating her leasehold Dhaka cantonment residence within five days, reports UNB.
Barrister AM Mahbubuddin Khokon MP, on behalf of his client Khaleda, sent the legal notice at 10am by courier service and by registered post.
Defence secretary, cabinet secretary, director of the military lands and cantonments directorate, military lands administrator and military estate officer have been made party to the notice.
The demand-of-justice notice said, "Appropriate legal action would be taken if the government did not withdraw or revoke the notice served to Khaleda Zia."
On April 20, the directorate of military lands and cantonments issued a notice asking the former Prime Minister to vacate her Dhaka cantonment residence within 15 days.
The notice, which came following a Cabinet decision on the lease cancellation under a move of the new government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cited five reasons for requesting Khaleda to return the house to the military estate officer.
