\\\'Govt attaches highest importance to industrial development\\\'

CHITTAGONG, June 24: Former mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukdar Abdul Khalek MP has said the present industry-friendly government attaches the highest importance to industrial development, as industries generate employment in the country.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the foundation-laying ceremony of construction of a 170-metre long and 20-metre wide cement clinker handling jetty at Mongla for Dubai-Bangladesh Cement Mills Ltd recently.
The jetty, to be constructed by FMC Group (Bangladesh) Ltd, will play an important role in development of the local cement sector and save a significant amount of money.
Clinker vessels with 10,000 tonnes capacity will be able to anchor at the jetty when constructed. Besides, production capacity of the cement factory will double.
"Importance of the country's second port city - Mongla - will increase after construction of the jetty," the lawmaker said, and warned against any kind of extortion during the construction work.
The jetty construction firm is a sister concern of the shipbuilding company FMC Group.
Presided over by managing director of Dubai-Bangladesh Cement Mills Ltd Anwar Hossain, the function was addressed by chairman of Mongla Port Authority Commodore HR Bhuiyan as the special guest.
Mongla Port Authority member Altaf Hossain, former municipality mayor Sheikh Abdus Salam, executive director of the cement mills Shamim Hossain, executive director of the construction firm KM Morshedul Alam and engineer Asgar Hossain were present on the occasion.
