Govt attaches top priority to safe migration: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday said her government attaches top most importance to safe migration and ensuring the rights of migrant workers, reports UNB. She said this when Regional Representative for South Asia of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Rabab Fatima met her at her office. After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters. During the meeting, Azad said, the Prime Minister mentioned the recent ratification of the UN Migrant Worker's Convention to this end. She said her government is very keen and committed to improving the security of migrant workers and reducing the cost of migration through enhanced cooperation with the destination countries. Hasina thanked the IOM for the support provided to the government in various areas related to migration management and capacity building. The Prime Minister also thanked the IOM regional representative for the cooperation extended to Bangladesh government during her tenure in ensuring return and reintegration of Bangladeshis after the unrest in Libya. In response, Rabab Fatima praised the Bangladesh government for its timely decision to bring back the Bangladeshi expatriates from the trouble-torn Libya. She also lauded the steps taken by the government for ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi migrant workers. Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Sheikh M Waheed-uz-Zaman and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad were present.
