The government can ensure food security for the people of Bangladesh by giving scope to the local entrepreneurs to invest in the African countries, speakers at a seminar Sunday said. The speakers of the seminar exchanged their views relating to immense scope of investment in the agricultural sector in South African countries by which the country can ensure its self-sufficiency in food. Coalition of Local NGOs, Bangladesh (CLNB) organised the seminar on 'Exchange of views on Bangladesh's role in expansion of agriculture and trade in Africa' at the National Press Club. "The government will change the national monetary policy to give privilege to the Bangladeshi investors for investing in the African countries," said Commerce Minister M Faruk Khan. Faruk Khan also suggested the organisers to submit a project proposal with detailed information so that he can pursue it for approval from the highest authority. Sanjida Khanam MP expressed her interest in favour of investing in the South African countries as she had visited there to make a feasibility study on the investment last year. "We can avail ourselves of the investment facility offered by the African countries through which the country can ensure its food security," she said. Honorary Consular General, Uganda Abul Hossain said the government of Uganda has assured us of leasing their lands to Bangladeshi investors to invest in the agricultural sector. He urged the government not to make any delay in taking initiatives on the matter. "So far around one hundred Bangladeshi peace-keepers have died in the UN mission. Bangladeshi peace-keepers have earned praise while working in African countries," High Commissioner of Bangladesh for Kenya Wahidur Rahman said. CLNB Chairman Harunur Rashid presided over the seminar while Matiur Rahman MP, former director of Al Arafa Islami Bank Ltd Amin Ahmad Bir Bikram and owner of Vati Bangla Mizanur Rahman Azad, among others, spoke on the occasion.
