Govt cancels Cotecna's PSI contract for flouting law

The government Wednesday revoked the pre-shipment inspection (PSI) company Cotecna's contract with effect from today (Thursday).
'The order on cancellation of Cotecna's contract will be effective from Thursday,' said National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Muhammad Adbul Mazid.
'The government has cancelled Cotecna's appointment for its operation on B and D block countries as it has violated the existing PSI Act 2002,' said an NBR press release.
The Cotecna now will not be able to issue any clean report of findings (CRF) as per NBR's order issued on the day.
Now the Bivac International SA, France takes over the PSI operation for the B block countries and the SGS Societe Generale De Survellancesa, Switzerland takes over the operation for the D block countries.
Both the PSI companies will now issue CRF certificates for import of products from the countries under these two blocks until August 31, 2008 beginning from today.
