FE Report
The proposed budget is huge but the government has the capacity to achieve the targets of the budget, Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain said Tuesday at Parliament.
He was speaking at the discussion on the budget, which was rolled out by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on June 10.
“The budget was formulated in the light of Vision 2021. It is investment-friendly and it will create employment opportunities in the country,” he said.
Measures for poverty alleviation have got the maximum allocation and social infrastructure also received a huge chunk of the budget, he added.
State Minister of Environment and Forest Hasan Mahmud said the budget has earmarked special allocation for measures to deal with climate change.
Gap between income and expenditure has narrowed down in the proposed budget and within a few years, the government will be able to announce surplus budget, he said.
Mr Hasan said from 2011-12 fiscal the country will not have any power deficit as the finance minister has allocated substantial amounts of money for the development of the sector.
Lawmaker Shah Zikrul Ahmed said the finance minister should not impose tax on street vendors.
Citing example, he said the NBR has recently imposed tax on about 30 street vendors in Purana Paltan area in the capital, which does not make any sense.
