Govt committed to ensuring food security: Land minister

Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira said in Jamalpur Friday the government is committed to ensuring food security for the people, particularly the downtrodden, reports BSS. He said the government is working relentlessly for the improvement of the lifestyle of poor and ultra-poor people. The minister was distributing rice under VGD and VGF programmes among the poor people in various unions in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila of the district ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. Hira laid stress on smooth distribution of government grants among the target group by maintaining transparency and accountability. The minister said the agriculture-friendly government is working hard to increase food production to attain food autarky. He urged the people to be united to achieve the target of vision 2021 of the government. The minister disbursed VGF rice among 20,700 families and VGD rice among 2000 families in various union in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. Political leaders and concerned union parishad chairmen were also present.
