Govt committed to ensuring overall dev of children

Commerce Minister Col (retd) Faruq Khan Friday said the present government is committed to ensuring overall development of the children, reports BSS.
"According to our election manifesto, we want to ensure the welfare of children by taking various uplift programmes for them and stopping child repression and child labour," he told a discussion as the chief guest at Bangladesh Shishu Academy in the city.
Bangladesh Children Theatre Federation arranged the discussion on the occasion of the World Child Theatre Day.
With Federation Chairman Shafiqur Rahman in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by Director General of Bangladesh Television Kazi Abu Zafar Siddiqui, eminent child filmmaker Badal Rahman, Director of Shilpakala Academy Shaoly Suman, Secretary General of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Jhuna Chowdhury and Principal of Sheikh Borhanuddin College Begum Qamrunnahar Ahmed.
The commerce minister said the present government was working for flourishing the talent of the children and considering providing food for lunch for primary school students free of cost.
He called upon the children as well as guardians to help build the country as 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Referring to the various steps undertaken by the present government including construction of elevated highway in the capital, tunnel under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong and building the Padma bridge, he said, "We want to build the country in a way that would help it secure a place on the world stage keeping our head high."
Later, the commerce minister distributed prizes among the winners of the painting and 'dress-as-you-like' competitions.
