Govt compensates bird flu-hit poultry owners

JOYPURHAT, Jun 21 (BSS): The government distributed cheques against the proposed compensation offer for the bird flue-affected poultry farm owners of Panchbibi Upazila of the district Wednesday.
A simple programme was organised here with Uapazila Nirbahi Officer Momtaz Uddin in the chair, while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nitai Chandra Das as the chief guest.
The function was also addressed, among others, by District Livestock Officer Anwarul Haq and Upazila Livestock Officer Bipin Bihari Kundo.
The DC distributed cheques worth over Tk 3.04 million among the affected farm owners on the occasion.
The government announced to compensate the upazila's 156 farm owners whose poultry birds were destroyed on June 16 following the detection of avian flu in their poultry farms.
