Govt conspiring against road march: Fakhrul

Wednesday, 4 January 2012

BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday alleged that the government is conspiring to foil the opposition's January 8-9 road march towards Chittagong, reports UNB.
"The government has indulged in a conspiracy to thwart our programme, but we still hope that a good sense will prevail upon it (govt)," Fakhrul told a press conference at the party's Naya Paltan central office in the afternoon.
He urged the government to extend its cooperation in staging the opposition's Dhaka-Chittagong road march peacefully and successfully.
About the government's performance during the last three years, the BNP leader said the government could not fulfill any single commitment it made to people.
Fakhrul said the government could not ensure coordination anywhere in its work and there is no doubt that it has turned inefficient.
Earlier, a joint meeting of the BNP and its front and associate organisations was held in the party office with Mirza Fakhrul in the chair to chalk out programmes to observe the 76th birth anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman on January 19 and make the Jan 8-9 Dhaka-Chittagong road march a success.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Law Kamrul Islam Tuesday said, while addressing a discussion at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU), the opposition would not be allowed to commit terrorist acts in Bangladesh in the name of political programmes.
On the success of the present government, the state minister said a government can never have cent per cent success but the success of this regime is much heavier than failures.
