Govt creating back-to-back issues to conceal its misdeeds: Rizvi

FE REPORT | Friday, 12 July 2024

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alleged on Thursday that the government was creating issues one after another just to cover up its misdeeds.
Senior joint secretary general of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the allegation at a press briefing arranged at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters in the city seeking the whereabouts of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's (JCD) Dhaka College unit vice president Atiqur Rahman Russell.
JCD central leaders alleged that Russell remained missing since he was picked up by plainclothes police in the capital's Azimpur area on July 1.
"Was Atiqur Rahman Russell abducted just to hide this government's misdeeds?," he asked.
He said, "The government is doing so (creating issues) just to cover up wrongdoings of former army chief Aziz Ahmed, ex-IGP Benazir Ahmed and former president of the National Board of Revenue's (NBR) Customs, Excise, and VAT Appellate Tribunal Matiur Rahman.
"You (Prime Minister) issued circular that there will be no quota system in government jobs, then how it happened at the directive of the court?" he said.
