Govt deceives nation by holding 'farcical polls'

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Wednesday that the government has deceived the whole nation by staging a 'farcical election'.
"This illegal government has deceived the people by holding one-sided farcical election. People of the country have rejected the government by showing them (government) red card," Senior joint secretary general of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the media while distributing leaflets at Gulshan-1 in the capital.
"Sheikh Hasina (Prime Minister) has lost the path of restoring democracy. People have stood against them (government). They (people) will not accept this authoritarian government again," he said. He called upon all to rise against this government.
BNP distributed leaflets to the people as part of its two-day mass contact programmes that ended on Wednesday.
Health affairs secretary of BNP Md Rafiqul Islam, convener of Tanti Dal Abdul Kalam Azad, member secretary of Matsyajibi Dal Abdur Rahim and members of the party's Dhaka south unit Arifa Sultana Ruma and Nadia Pathan Papon were present, among others.
Meanwhile, leaders of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, BNP's associate body for youths, also distributed leaflets to the people at Malibagh Chowdhurypara in the capital.
They thanked people for abstaining from voting during the election held on January 7, 2024.
Assistant general secretary of Jubo Dal central committee Shah Nasiruddin Rumon, publicity secretary Mehbub Masum Shanto and assistant organising secretary Sakhawat Hossain Choin were present, among others.
