Govt decides to ensure hassle-free Eid journey

The government at an inter-ministerial meeting has decided to resolve all problems on land, railway and naval routes by July 20 to make a hassle-free journey of homebound Eid passengers. The meeting decided to stop all acts of extortion, overloading and occupation of footpath side by side with repairing all damaged roads, bridges and culverts and removing wastes from the roads and highways. Communication Minister Obaidul Quader chaired the meeting. ‘All roads in the city will be repaired by July 20 and zero tolerance will be shown to all acts of overtaking and extortion on the road and highways during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival,’ he said. Leaves of all concerned officials and employees in the communication sector have been cancelled during the Eid, Quader told the meeting. An inspection team would be formed with officials from various organisations including Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), WASA, LGED and BRTC to monitor the communication situation of the Dhaka city, according to BSS.
