FE Report
The government has decided to expand the fertiliser distribution network by appointing sub-dealers at union levels to ensure easy access of farmers to the supply sources.
At present there are 4,800 fertiliser dealers appointed by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) throughout the country. Additional 9,600 sub-dealers will be appointed soon increasing the supply sources to one dealer and three sub-dealers in each union, sources said.
The government took the decision following mismanagement of fertiliser distribution at the end-user level especially in remote areas across the country.
The newly appointed sub-dealers will purchase their quota of fertilisers from the BCIC dealers engaged earlier and will receive a commission of Tk 0.50 per kilogram, sources added.
All the dealers and sub-dealers will be monitored by the block supervisors employed by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) while issuing allocation slips.
Chairman of Bangladesh Fertiliser Association (BFA) Kafil Uddin Ahmed told the FE that it had already instructed their appointed dealers to recruit three additional sub-dealers in each union to boost the supply and distribution of the manure among the farmers.
"We are expecting the recruitment of sub-dealers to be completed within the next week as we have taken all necessary steps in line with the directives of the government," the BFA chief added.
He also said: "We will give preference to experienced traders with good moral background while recruiting the sub-dealers".
The government has sufficient stocks of urea, Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) and the Muriate of Potash (MoP) to meet the current demand of farmers, sources said.
