Govt decision to dig canals along Kuril-Purbachal Link Road hailed

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa), an environmentalist group, has appreciated the government decision of digging canals from Dhaka’s Kuril to the Balu River on both sides of the Kuril Purbachal Link Road. In a statement on Wednesday, the green group said if the project is completely implemented, the entire northern part of the Dhaka city will be free from waterlogging. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved a project at a cost of Tk55.30 billion (5,530.13 crore) to remove the water-logging problem in some key areas of the city on Tuesday.
Alleging that the land grabbers are propagating through some media against the initiative, Bapa said the Prime Minister deserves heartiest congratulations for making an important decision ignoring the resistance of the land grabbers, according to a news agency.
