KURIGRAM, July 27 (BSS): Farmers in the district are happy as the government has launched a programme of '100 hours free irrigation' from each deep tubewell in the current season.
The farmers have started 'aman' plantation with a festive mood in rural areas.
The Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) has been implementing the programme to tackle ongoing drought situation in the district. Under the programme 4,060 hectares will get irrigation facilities through 203 deep tubewells in seven upazilas of the district.
Farmers of village Khamari under Sadar Upazila told BSS, " Most of our land would have remained uncultivated if the government would not provide irrigation free of cost."
"Earlier, many times we could not cultivate our lands due to drought. This is the first time the government has come forward to help us, so the farmers are happy now," they added.
