KISHOREGANJ, Feb 9 (UNB): The government is being deprived of revenue worth over Tk 20 million (2 crore) as 11 water-bodies of the district cannot be given on lease for long following the court's stay order.
According to local ADC (Revenue) office, the water-bodies are Anggan Beel, Koyra Telni, Menda Beel, Badla Bakulia, Itna Fishery, Itna Bazejalkar, Bhander Beel, Kunia Beel, Chhinai river and Bou Batlai Beel at Itna and Betaga river in Karimganj Upazila.
The lease price of the 11 water-bodies is Tk 20.1 million, the sources said.
ADC (Revenue) Tapan Chandra Banik said the water-bodies could not be given on lease as court issued stay order recently. "The lease is possible after the positive decision of the court", he said.
Local people, however, alleged that though the government is being deprived of a good amount of revenue some influential people are catching fish illegally from these water-bodies.
