Govt destabilising judiciary: BNP
Wednesday, 18 May 2011
The government is destabilising the judiciary by pursuing partisanship to legalise all its misdeeds, the main opposition alleged, reports bdnews24.com.
"The entire judiciary is unstable at the moment as judges are appointed by violating seniority," BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Tuesday.
At a discussion at the Diploma Engineers' Institution in the city he said, "The government is doing these to get their political crimes legitimised by the court."
The president appointed Justice Mohammad Muzammel Hossain on May 11 as the new chief justice, who superseded senior-most judge Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman. Justice Abu Nayeem resigned the next day.
Referring to the appointment of justices Muhammed Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Md Shamsul Huda Sunday to the Appellate Division, Fakhrul claimed they were appointed "superseding 53 other judges".
