Govt extends taxicab route

FE Report | Tuesday, 18 March 2014

The government has extended taxicab  service routes aiming to arrange a better service and remove suffering of the common passengers in the country's highway, official sources said.
The roads and railway division under the ministry of communication issued a circular in this connection recently.
The taxicab service routes would be extended now to Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Gazipur and Narsingdi districts.
Earlier, it was Narayanganj, Savar, Tongi, Munsiganj, Dohar municipality, Mawya ferryghat, Joydebpur to Gazipur municipality and Manikganj Aricha/Paturia ferryghat, the ministry source said.
The taxicab service Guideline-2010 had been amended by the direction of President Md Abdul Hamid.
Current taxicab service could not meet the common passengers demand. So, the move will fulfil demand of passengers and reduce suffering of them, sources concerned said.
Existing monopoly business and anarchy in the sector will also be removed that has been reducing gradually, they said.
