FE REPROT | Saturday, 28 March 2026

Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Saiful Alam Khan Milon has said the July Charter remains a distant dream, alleging that the government has failed to take effective steps.
“The implementation of the July Charter still remains a major challenge for parliament, as the government has yet to adopt a realistic approach to implementing the charter,” he told the media after meeting a delegation from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) at the party's central office in the capital's Moghbazar area on Friday.
He said they exchanged views with the IFEC delegation on different issues during
the meeting.
He said both sides stressed the need for consolidating and strengthening the electoral system of Bangladesh.
Mr Saiful Alam Khan Milon, MP, also member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e- Islami's central executive council, said the 13th Jatiya Sangsad must be made effective as per the desire of
the people.
He said the Jatiya Sangsad should be the sole center for resolving all national issues, with both the ruling and opposition parties playing an active and equal role to make it vibrant and effective.
The Jamaat lawmaker further said they have agreed to work jointly in the future to strengthen constitutional and democratic institutions in Bangladesh.
He said they discussed the need to change the rules of procedure of parliament, and that both the treasury and opposition benches gave their consent.
He added that the government is considering an annual ordinance related to the referendum.
He expressed dismay that representatives from the opposition bench are yet to be confirmed or inducted into several parliamentary standing committees.
He also emphasised the need to provide training to MPs to enhance their capacity and ensure effective participation in parliamentary sessions.
Jammat central executive council member advocate Jashim Uddin Sarcar and advocate Shishir Md Monir and Barrister Mahbub Alam Salehi MP were present, among others.
