Govt finalises Teesta deal framework, says minister

Minister for Water Resources Anwar Hossain said the government has finalised an interim water sharing agreement framework of the Teesta river, reports BSS.
"A framework of the interim Teesta Water Sharing Agreement has been finalised following the directives of the two premiers," he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan.
He expressed the hope that the government would be able to sign the Teesta deal based on equality, justice and a policy on not harming each other.
"The efforts for signing the deal with India through discussion are ongoing," the minister said.
Anwar said after coming to power in 2009, the present government gave highest importance to signing the Teesta River water sharing agreement and started discussion in different spheres with the Indian government.
The minister also said the government has finalised an interim water sharing agreement framework of the Feni River.
