Govt firm to ensure country\\\'s development: Syed Ashraf

General Secretary of the ruling party and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam said Monday the present government has been working to ensureĀ country's development, report agencies.
"There are many political parties in the country. A few of them assumed power many times taking part in the movements and struggles. But, there are a few political parties which could properly run the country. Our expectations are high to the new generation that they would lead AL to a new height," he said.
Syed Ashraf said this while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city in observance of the 65th founding anniversary of Awami League.
The Awami League leader said, "There are many achievements of Awami League over the past 65 years. Awami League will ensure continuation of the achievements and score many more achievements in the future."
Conveying his greetings to the people of the country on the occasion of AL's 65th founding anniversary, Syed Ashraf said in its 65 years the AL played a pivotal role in the historic language movement of 1952, the mass upsurge of 1969, the polls of 1970 and the war of liberation in 1971.
Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina paid Monday morning rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city on the occasion of the 65th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL).
After laying the wreath, the PM stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, architect of the country's independence.
Braving downpour and inclement weather thousands of people from all walks of life took part Monday in a colourful march brought out in the capital in observance of the ruling Awami League's 65th founding anniversary.
Speaking at a pre-march public rally in front of Shikha Chirantan (eternal flame) at Suhrawardy Udyan, Awami League (AL) presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim said: "We will translate into reality father of the nation Bangabandhu's dream for building a golden country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina uniting people of Bangladesh."
