Govt firm to implement war crimes verdicts: Inu

KUSHTIA, Nov 15 (BSS): Information Minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president Hasanul Haq Inu said that despite repeated requests by the foreign countries including the United States (US), the government is firm on implementing the death sentence of the convicted war criminals.
The information minister said this while replying to queries by the journalists before joining the annual prize distribution ceremony held at Bheramara Upazila Council auditorium of the district this noon.
Criticising BNP acting general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam's statement that January 5 election was arranged by the administration, Inu said, "It is totally indecent to talk about election and democracy by those who resorted to armed attack in order to foil the election and constitutional process".
The Information Minister also criticised the call for movement by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and said, "The people would not respond to her call as she has already gone out of politics by not participating in the election."
Presided over by Bheramara Upazila chairman Advocate Towhidul Alam, the meeting was also attended, among others, by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shanti Moni Chakma, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Julfikher Haider and Kusthia district JSD general secretary Abdul Alim Shawpan.
Later, the Information Minister inaugurated an agriculture technology fair at Bheramara.
Another report adds from Narayanganj, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan said Saturday the trial of the war crimes will continue and the verdict of the war criminals also would be implemented.
