Govt firm to reorganise country's health sectors

Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque Thursday said the government is determined to reorganise the country's health sectors by removing all mismanagements of the last seven years, reports BSS.

"Health policy, drug policy and many other issues will come up before us for consideration and we want to change the whole health system with the cooperation of all," the Health Minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the city Thursday.

Bangladesh Renal Associa-tion, Kidney Foundation, Kidney Awareness, Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), BADAS and Hypertension Society of Heart Foundation jointly organised the discussion on the occasion of the World Kidney Day.

Prime Minister's Adviser Professor Syed Modasser Ali and National Professor Dr MR Khan were present as special guests.

With president of Bangladesh Renal Association and Kidney Foundation Prof Harun-ur-Rashid in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by vice-president of Bangladesh Renal Association, Dr Habibur Rahman, General Secretary Dr Mohammad Firoz Khan and KAMPS President Dr MA Samad.

Meanwhile UNB report adds: every year some 50 thousand people die of acute kidney complications in Bangladesh and nearly 90 per cent of them are deprived of proper medical treatment, reports UNB.

About 0.18 million people are suffering from kidney related problems and a significant number of them are children. They are also prone to having kidney disease, said Prof Mohammad Hanif, head of pediatric department of Dhaka Shishu Hospital while speaking at a function marking the World Kidney Day Thursday.

Organised by Pediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh, the function was held at the Bangladesh Institute of Child Health auditorium.

Dr Golam Muin Uddin presented the keynote paper on Chronic Kidney Disease and Renal Transplantation in Children: Bangladesh Perspective.

"About 47 per cent of our population is children. Seven per cent of them equivalent to about 4.9 million children are suffering from various kidney complications in the country, added the renowned physician.
