Sunday, 2 August 2015

Amid widespread protests by the auto-rickshaw operators in different parts of the country, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways division MAN Siddique said the government is firm in its decision to stop plying of three- wheelers on highways across the country. The Secretary came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his office on Sunday. “The government has taken the decision after considering everything and it is strict in its decision about banning plying of three wheelers like CNG-run auto-rickshaw on highways”, said the secretary. Besides, the government will not change its earlier decision due to the movement of the auto-rickshaw operators, he said. Earlier, on July 27, the government clamped a ban on the movement of the light vehicles like three-wheeler and non-motorised vehicles on highways across the country with effect from August 1. The ban came in the wake of deaths of over 240 people in a series of road accidents before and after the Eid-ul-Fitr across the country, according to a news agency.
