Govt fixes rawhide prices

The government has fixed the prices of (salted) rawhides of sacrificial animals a bit higher for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The prices of rawhides of sacrificial cows have been fixed at Tk 47-52 per square foot (sft) in the capital city and Tk 40-44 per sft outside Dhaka.
The prices are higher by Tk 7.0 per sft than the rates fixed last year.
Besides, the prices of goat hides have been set at Tk 18-20 per sft and the prices of baqri hides at Tk 12-14 per sft.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi disclosed the prices in a virtual press briefing from his residence on Tuesday.
Last year, the prices of rawhides of cows were Tk 40-45 per sft in Dhaka and Tk 33-37 per sft outside the capital.
Besides, the prices of goat hides were fixed at Tk 15-17 per sft, while the prices of baqri hides were Tk 12-14 per sft.
Before disclosing the prices, a meeting with the traders, associations and stakeholders concerned of leather sector was held at the Ministry of Commerce. Its Senior Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh moderated the meeting.
Senior officials of different ministries and state agencies along with association leaders joined the meeting virtually.
