Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina alleged Friday that the military-backed government would force people to file another 30 cases against her, reports bdnews24.com.
The AL chief alleged that the government was looking for the owners of Pran Group, Akij Group of Industries and Sharif Melamine Industries to get them to press charges against her.
Hasina named the three big companies in her news briefing to reporters at her residence named Sudha Sadan amid government restrictions on her scheduled travel to the US to see her relatives.
The former prime minister said, the government have been trying to level 'thief' and 'extortionist' charge even against innocent people.
"Nothing is more inhuman than making innocent people guilty of the wrongs they didn't do at all."
Hasina faces three extortion cases-all filed during the state of emergency by as many businessmen-most of them known to be loyal to the AL.
The AL chief denied all charges and said the cases had been designed to tarnish her image.
Another UNB report adds: A group of lawyers has expressed concern over the government's decision barring former prime minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina from travelling to the USA to see her expecting daughter.
The last moment decision of the government restricting her scheduled visit to America has created confusion and disappointment among people, observed the lawyers in a statement issued in the city Saturday.
Terming the government stance as 'totally inhuman and tantamount to snatching away citizen right', the statement stated that such cases as has been filed against Hasina has been done 'just to harass and undermine' her before people.
In the statement, they expressed the hope that the government would soon remove all barriers and allow Hasina to be with her expecting daughter.
The signatories to the statement include Shafique Ahmed, KS Nabi, Mahbubey Alam, Khandkar Mahbub Hossain, Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Abdul Hamid, M Rahmat Ali, Shahara Khatun, Abdul Matin Khasru, AFM Mesbahuddin, Momtazuddin Ahmed, Shamsul Huda, AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Abdul Mannan Khan and Subrata Chowdhury.
