Govt forms 11-member cell for planting 250m trees in five years

The government has formed an 11-member cell to implement its election manifesto of planting 250 million trees across the country in five years.
The cell is headed by Prime Minister's Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan. It also includes the secretaries of the Local Government Division, and Secondary and Higher Education Division; and the ministries of land, agriculture, disaster management and relief, and environment, forest and climate change, according to a notification issued by PMO.
The cell will collect tree saplings, select species, and identify suitable areas for implementation of the tree plantation programme. It will also coordinate among various departments and organizations, monitor tree plantation activities, and make required recommendations.
The cell is also expected to take required measures to ensure funding for the tree plantation programme, and launch plantation campaigns and promotion activities, according to the notification.
