Govt forms 8 teams to monitor TCB's sale of essentials for 10m card holders

The government has formed eight high-powered monitoring teams for eight divisions, aiming to oversee the sales drive of essential items for the 10 million card holder families under arrangement of the Trading Corporation Bangladesh (TCB).
The drive is now going on across the country selling some essential items, including edible oil, sugar, lentil and onion, among the beneficiary families.
The teams will gather necessary information by face-to-face conversation with the card holder families.
Each team will inspect a minimum one upazila, one municipality and one ward under a city corporation, according to an order issued on Monday last.
They will collect data on harassment or sufferings during collecting the essential products under the TCB drive.
The teams are asked to submit reports within three working days after completing the field visit.
Currently, the sales drive is being operated by the different local administrative bodies, including city corporations, district and upazila administration.
Under the programme, a beneficiary would be able to buy a maximum 1kg of sugar at Tk 55, 2 litres of soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre, 2kg of lentils at Tk 65 per kg and 2 kg of onion.
