Monday, 3 March 2014
The government has formed an eight-member committee, headed by a Jatiya Party lawmaker, to recover the illegally occupied halls of Jagannath University (JnU). An emergency meeting of the education ministry formed the committee on Monday. The move follows a month of protests by students and teachers of JnU to take back the nine halls on their campus. These halls are allegedly occupied by MPs, ruling Awami League leaders, police, and local influential people, according to locals and media reports. A media statement from the education ministry said the committee, led Kazi Feroz Rashid MP, will settle on ways to recover these halls and file a report within 30 days on what should be done, according to bdnews24.com.
