Govt forms new wage board for glass workers

The government has formed a new wage board to review the minimum monthly remuneration of the workers of the glass and silicate industry, officials said.
The minimum monthly wages for the industry were fixed at Tk 5,000 last time in 2011, they added.
The ministry of labour and employment issued a gazette notification on January 14 last announcing the names of the representatives both from workers and owners for recommending the minimum wage for the sectors, they added.
The wage board consists of a chairman, one independent member, one each permanent representative from employers and workers while one each temporary representative from the employers and workers.
The workers have been selected from the respective industries.
According to the gazette notification, the labour ministry appointed K Gyasuddin, executive director (Administration) of The Bengal Glass Works Limited, as the employers' representative and Sheikh Taj Uddin, president of Usmania Glass Sheet Sramik Karmachari Union, as workers' representative to the wage board.
