The BNP has again criticised the government for ‘gagging media by formulating the broadcast policy. Senior BNP leaders alleged that the government has formulated the National Broadcast Policy, 2014, in a bid to perpetuate its power by annihilating democracy. They also said that the government has taken a move to restore parliament’s power to remove High Court judges an effort to establish its full control over the judiciary. ‘Awami League has grabbed power without people’s mandate. They’ve now formulated the broadcast policy to prolong their illegitimate power by hushing up their misdeeds, corruption and destroying democracy,’ BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah has said while addressing a discussion in the city. He said the broadcast policy is contrary to the Article 39 of the Constitution and people’s right of expression. He alleged that the government is resorting to various tricks to establish ‘Awami autocracy’. The former minister claimed that it has taken a move to restore parliament’s power to remove High Court judges in an ill-effort to establish its full control over the judiciary and regulate the judges. The senior lawyer also called upon people from all strata to get united to put up a strong resistance against its plots, according to a news agency.
