Govt heading towards BKSAL: Fakhrul

Sunday, 21 September 2014

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Saturday that there is no alternative to a strong mass movement to force the current regime to hold a fresh inclusive national election under a neutral administration, reports UNB.
"The government runs by an 'undemocratic' parliament put in place through a voter-less election," he said.
The BNP spokesperson was addressing a roundtable, titled 'Broadcast Policy: Autocracy' arranged by Bangladesh Rural Journalists' Association, at the Jatiya Press Club.
About the 16th amendment to the constitution empowering parliament to remove Supreme Court judges on charges of misconduct and incapacity, Fakhrul said such one-sided parliament does not have any moral and legal right to amend the constitution bringing the judiciary under its control.
Referring to an editor's comment, Fakhrul said Awami League and democracy cannot go together.
He alleged that the ruling Awami League (AL) is suffering from political bankruptcy as it has already got isolated from people.
"It's now very clear that the government is pushing the country back to one-party Baksal misrule," the BNP leader said urging people to get united for waging a strong oust-government movement to 'restore' democracy.
The roundtable was addressed, among others, by BNP leaders Abdullah Al Noman, Shawkat Mahmud and Habibunnabi Sohel.
