Govt honours 658 taxpayers as countrywide tax fair ends

The government honoured 658 taxpayers across the country in recognition of their praiseworthy payment of income tax for the tax year 2016-17.
Of the taxpayers, 141 received tax cards under 36 categories at a function Wednesday after the conclusion of a countrywide tax fair the outcome of which the revenue authority billed encouraging.
Also, 86 families earned accolade as 'Kar Bahadur Poribar (tax hero family) for the past tax year.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) presented the awards at a ceremony held at its under-construction building at city's Agargaon.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith attended the programme as chief guest.
Senior secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman presided over the programme also attended by State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, parliamentary standing committee chairman on Finance Abdur Razzak, and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin.
The NBR also awarded 13 reporters 'NBR Best Reporters Award 2017' at the programme.
Of the 658 taxpayers, 517 received tax card for the highest and long-term payment of tax across the country.
Some 222 taxpayers have been honoured from different city corporations and districts for highest payments. Some 147 received award for long-term payment of tax, 74 women taxpayers for highest payment of tax and 74 highest taxpayers from taxpayers aged below 40.
From Dhaka division, Manzur Elahi and Md Kamrul Ajam have been nominated long-term taxpayers.
Under banking category, six banks including Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd, Standard Chartered bank, HSBC Bank, United Commercial Bank, Pubali Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank received tax card.
Winners from non-banking financial institutions are IDLC Finance Limited, Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited, Uttara Finance and Investments Limited, and Infrastructure Development Company Limited.
The country's largest mobile-phone operator, Grameephone, also received tax card as a token of recognition.
Under engineering category, BSRM Steels Limited, Navana Limited, and PHP Continuous Galvanizing have been awarded tax card.
Nestle Bangladesh, Olympic Industries Limited and Square Food and Beverage received award under food and other categories.
Energy-category tax-card winners are: Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, Sylhet Gas Fields Limited and Baropukuria Coal Mining Company.
Jute industries are Janata Jute Mills Limited, Super Jute Mills Limited and T-max Jute Mills Limited.
Spinning and textile industries are Coats Bangladesh Limited, Square Textiles Limited, Apex Textile Printing Mills Limited, Envoy Textiles Limited, GMS Composite Knitting Industries Limited, Badsha Textiles Limited and Hamid Weaving Mills Limited.
Pharmaceutical and chemical categories' card-winning industries are: Unilever Bangladesh Limited, Square Pharmaceuticals Limited, Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited.
From print-and electronic-media category, Media Star Limited, Transcraft Limited, Media World Limited and East West Media Group Limited received tax card.
Real-estate companies are: Bay Development Limited, Space Zero Limited, Sanmar Properties Limited.
Readymade garment industries are: That's it Sportswear Limited, Refat Garments Limited, KDS Garments Industries Limited, Ananta Apparel Limited, Pacific Jeans Limited, Ring Shine Textiles Limited, Apex Lingerie Limited.
Tax-card-winning leather-industry taxpayers are: Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited, Apex Tannery Limited, Lalmai Footwear Limited.
British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited, American Life Insurance Company, the Security Printing Corporation (Bangladesh) Limited, MJL Bangladesh Limited have been nominated for tax card in 'other' category.
Walton Micro Tech Corporation, Walton Plaza, Mastermind English- medium School, ASBS, Asha, East West University, Bureau Bangladesh, Gramsico Limited, Community Development Centre, Integrated Development Foundation also obtained nomination as tax-card winners.
From individual category, there are businessmen, salaried persons, young taxpayers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, injured freedom fighters, senior citizens, physically challenged persons, women, architect, accountants, new taxpayers, sportsmen, actor/actress, singers and journalists nominated for tax cards.
Under journalist category, Mahfuz Anam, Mohammad Abdul Malek, Motiur Rahman, Shaikh Siraj and Golam Sarwar got tax card.
Senior citizens Samuel S Chowdhury, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Ali Hossain Akbar Ali and Anis-ud Doula received tax card at the award-giving ceremony.
Businessmen category's tax-card winners are: Md Kaus Mia, Abdul Kadir Molla, Khandaker Badrul Hassan, Kamrul Ashraf Khan and Mohammad Kamal.
Under salaried-person category, Mohammad Yousuf, Rubayat Farzana Hossain, Khawaza Tajmahal, MA Haider Hossain and Abdul Muktadir received tax card.
Doctors' category taxpayers are: AKM Fazlul Huq, Pran Gopal Datta, Jahangir Kabir, Md Abdul Mabin Khan and NAM Momenujjaman.
Tax-card-winner lawyers are Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Advocate Mahbube Alam, Ahsanul Karim, Kazi Md Tanjibul Alam, Muhammad Kabir Uzzaman Yakub.
Engineers are Shymol Kanti Ghosh, Md Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan and SM Abu Sufiyan.
Tax-card architects are Md Rafiq Azam, Md Iqbal Habib and Enamul Karim Nirjhor.
Accountants are Md Moktar Hossain, Md Jaynul Abedin and Monjur Alam.
Sportsmen are Tamim Iqbal Khan, Mashrafi Bin Mortuza and Shakib Al Hassan.
Actor and actresses are Meher Afroz Shaon, Shakib Khan Rana and Jahid Hassan.
Tax-card-winning singers are Runa Laila, SD Rubel and Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya.
