CHITTAGONG, Sept 15 (UNB): Commerce and Education Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman Monday expressed the hope that the government initiative to bring Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to the discussion table together would be successful.
He was talking to the journalists at the local Circuit House after attending a review meeting on the progress of implementation of the decisions taken by the Advisory Council of the caretaker government for the development of the port city.
The Adviser said bringing the two leaders to the discussion table is "no doubt a significant initiative" to bring a qualitative change in the country's politics. "But it is not the only initiative taken by the government to resolve the existing crises."
If the initiative on Hasina-Khaleda meeting fails, there is no reason to think the other initiatives would not work also, he said.
Asked about the Awami League-BNP conflict in this regard, Hossain Zillur said: "Don't be impatient; keep patience for a qualitative change in politics."
He urged all to shun the politics of conflict so that the post-1/11 period is not prolonged any more.
About the implementation of the Advisory Council's decision for development of the port city, the Adviser said that the government would start supplying gas after Ramadan to reopen the closed industries.
Tender has also been floated for a 50-MW rental power plant in the port city, he informed.
