Govt insincere in implementing CHT peace accord: Santu Larma
Friday, 3 December 2010
Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, also known as Santu Larma, has condemned the government for its lack of sincerity in implementing the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord, reports bdnews24.com.
"The incumbent government has not taken any initiative to execute the accord since it has come to power," he alleged.
Mr Larma, President of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity, made the allegation Thursday, while he was addressing a rally at the city's Diploma Engineers' Institution.
The Samity organised rally marking the 13th anniversary of signing the peace accord.
Mr Larma claimed that the overall situation of the hill tracts had remained unchanged as the fundamental issues of the accord were not implemented.
The two decades of armed struggle by the indigenous people of the hill tracts ended with signing the peace treaty on Dec 2, 1997.
Mr Larma also demanded effective Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council and the District Council Laws for the three districts (Chittagong, Khagrachharhi and Rangamati).
