Govt launches free hand-out of CFLs to ease power crisis

The government launched free hand-out of 28 million energy saving bulbs Saturday in a bid to ease nagging power crisis amid complaints that rich consumers are cashing on the 'skewed' distribution system.
All state power companies started distributing the bulbs in major cities and 27 districts, with some 5.5 million Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) earmarked for the first phase.
"Today, we have distributed 23-watt power 418,000 CFLs 14-watt power 429,000 CFLs in south Dhaka and Narayanganj," Dhaka Power Distribution Company chief Faridul Haque told the FE.
