FE Report
The government has launched a Tk 259.57 million agri-input support programme for the country's marginal 'aush' paddy farmers to help recoup the loss of current 'boro' crop by the recent flash floods.
Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury Wednesday announced the support scheme, under which a total of 13,844 tonnes of fertilisers will be distributed free of cost among 3,46,100 small and marginal farmers in 51 districts.
Under the scheme, each of the listed farmers will get 20 kilogrammes (kgs) of urea fertilister, 10 kgs of TSP (triple super phosphate) and 10 kgs of MOP (muriate of potash) for cultivating 'aush' crop, the agriculture minister said.
"A sum of Tk 259.57 million, sanctioned by the finance minister Tuesday, has already been sent to the district commissioners (DCs) concerned for purchasing fertilisers and distributing those among the 'aush' cultivators."
"We have taken up the special incentive programme to boost the country's 'aush' output, following the recent loss of 'boro' crop in the 'haor' areas of Sylhet, Netrokona and Kishoreganj districts," Motia said.
