Prime minister Sheikh Hasina said Wednesday her government will consider the announcement of eighth wage board in due time, if necessary, reports bdnews24.com.
Answering a query of Anwar Hossain MP, she said in parliament, "The current government has been working for the welfare of journalists, workers and employees.
"A tripartite team is monitoring implementation of the seventh wage board for their welfare. The government will consider announcing eighth wage board in due time, if need be," she said during the prime minister's 30-minute question time.
In a written answer, Hasina also said, "The government has raised advertisement rate twice for the development of newspaper industries."
Replying to another query, she added there was no scope for taking steps against those newspapers, which are yet to implement sixth wage board.
She explained that the government formed seventh wage board under the jurisdiction of section-143 of Labour Act-2006 on Feb 26, 2008.
In addition, the government decided to remove all inconsistencies related to salaries and allowances through reviewing sixth wage board.
